The Secret of the Jade Bangle – Global Reading Challenge

So exciting that the Secret of the Jade Bangle is one of eight books chosen for The Global Reading Challenge 2024! This is a reading incentive program for 4th and 5th graders enrolled in Seattle Public Schools.

The Mystery of the Painted Fan – Nominated for a Forest of Reading award

This is soooo amazing that The Mystery of the Painted Fan is nominated for the Silver Birch Express Award for The Forest of Reading! This is Canada’s largest recreational reading program. Its mission is to instill the love of reading in people of all ages, while supporting programming in schools and libraries and celebrating Canadian authors, illustrators, and literature.

Short story included in Black Cat anthology

My short story, The Birds of Kits Beach, is included in Black Cat, a collection of thirteen supernatural stories set in the Pacific Northwest of British Columbia, penned by a diverse group of Western Canadian writers. From historic to futuristic, with entities both monstrous and misunderstood, these tales of fiction are guaranteed to chill readers to the bone.

Shortlisted for two Manitoba Book Awards

The Manitoba Book Awards / Les Prix du livre du Manitoba celebrates excellence in Manitoba writing, publishing, book design and illustration.

Linda Trinh is shortlisted for two Manitoba Book Awards:

  • Carol Shields Winnipeg Book Award – Presented annually to the writer whose book best evokes the special character of, and contributes to the appreciation and understanding of, the city of Winnipeg.
  • Eileen McTavish Sykes Award for Best First Book – Presented annually to a Manitoba writer whose first professionally-published English- language book is deemed the best written.

Asian Heritage Month – Showcase of Asian Writers

The Asian Heritage Society of Manitoba invites Linda Trinh from Winnipeg for readings at

Winnipeg Public Libraries. One of the organization’s goals is to acknowledge the contributions of Asian Canadians to Canadian society through the arts, culture and heritage.

Announcing tour roster for Canadian Children’s Book Week 2023

The Canadian Children’s Book Centre (CCBC) is excited to announce the touring creators for Canadian Children’s Book Week/Tournée Lire à tout vent 2023. Thirty-two creators (25 authors, 6 illustrators, and 1 storyteller) will take part.

Linda Trinh has been selected to take part in this hybrid tour and share her love of reading with young people in schools, libraries, and homes all across Canada. Established in 1977, the upcoming national tour will take place from April 30–May 6, 2023.

Linda Trinh Hybrid Book Launch – October 28, 2022

Join authors Linda Trinh and Jodi Carmichael as they discuss the first two books of Linda’s brand-new series of early chapter books, The Nguyen KidsThe Secret of the Jade Bangle and The Power of the Pearl Earrings (Annick Press).

This charming new series explores Vietnamese culture and identity through the eyes of three siblings, with elements of the supernatural, spirituality, and social justice woven in. In a recent review, Publishers Weekly noted how “Trinh addresses racism, allyship, and friendship in this series starter,” and called The Secret of the Jade Bangle “An emotionally intelligent, straightforwardly told family story.”
